Just to prove it's doable

The fact that Jon Johansen has decided to alter Google Video Viewer's source code so that it can play video streams via other servers rather than Google's is a deed without any practical usage.

Google intended to offer a complete service and that is why the company released a program that is able to play video sequences found with Google Video Search.

To crack this program so that it can be used on other servers as well, aside from adding another brick to DVD Jon's statue, also famous for cracking iTunes, is almost useless, considering that there are programs with similar functions.

Google had announced that the program will remain open source, so this time, DVD Jon can't even be considered a hero.

Google has already announced that the company's server are safe and they will not be endangered by DVD Jon's actions, but recommends users not to use the Google Video Viewer version posted on Jon Johansen's blog, because they might render their computers vulnerable.
