Major carrier Verizon is in the process of getting rid of the older Android smartphones that are filling its stocks. After dropping the DROID RAZR’s price, which was to be expected given the initial high price, Verizon Wireless slashed the price of other Android devices, but only for a limited time.

We have already reported that Motorola’s DROID 3 smartphone is now available for only $49.99 with a new two-year agreement. However, the carrier offers a much better deal on the HTC DROID Incredible 2, currently available for purchase for a mere $9.99 with a new two-year contract.

Unfortunately, the carrier does not waive the activation fee for customers who purchase the DROID Incredible 2, which adds another $35 fee to the first bill. According to Verizon, this is a limited time offer, which will end on February 5.

Verizon Wireless introduced the HTC DROID Incredible 2 about nine months ago and the smartphone already received a major software upgrade. Initially delivered with Android 2.2 Froyo on board, the HTC DROID Incredible received an official Gingerbread upgrade back in July.

There’s a slim chance that the DROID Incredible 2 will get an Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade sometime later this year, as the device meets all the hardware requirements needed.

In this regard, the smartphone is equipped with a 1 GHz single-core Qualcomm MSM8655 Snapdragon processor and packs 1.1GB of ROM, 768MB of RAM and microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB, 2GB memory card included).

The phone also boasts an 8-megapixel camera with autofocus, dual-LED flash and HD (720p) video recording, which will be even greater with the ‘zero shutter lag’ capability.

In addition, it sports a decent 4.0-inch Super LCD capacitive touchscreen display with support for 480 x 800 pixels resolution and 16 million colors.
