Verizon Wireless is preparing to roll out a software update to the DROID 2 Global, according to a leaked internal document. This is in fact a maintenance update, which fixes a few bug and adds several improvements to the smartphone.

Verizon customers should not expect an upgrade to Android 2.3 Gingerbread for their DROID 2 Global smartphones any time soon.

According to the official changelog leaked on Droid-life and dated December 7th, the update is tagged as version 2.4.330 and is only 15.6 MB in size.

The update 2.4.330 changelog for Motorola DROID 2 Global is detailed below:

Improvements:

- Device now prevents 011 to Country Code to send SMS messages; - Device no longer indicates “No Service” after powering up; - Device no longer resets when changing from Global Mode to GSM/UMTS communication; - Device now refreshes the user interface display when switching from GSM/UMTS to Global Mode; - Eliminated the blank screen when dialing the call forwarding string *71<number>.

Other improvements:

- Improved audio during voice calls; - Reduced user interface lock-ups.

Users should be aware of the fact that this is a “pull” update, which means that any Verizon DROID 2 Global owner can go to Settings>About phone>System updates to check for the software update.

For those out of the loop, the DROID 2 Global runs on the Android 2.2 (Froyo) platform and is the first of its kind to feature a TI OMAP 3630 1.2 GHz processor.

Motorola DROID 2 Global packs a full slide–out QWERTY keyboard and integrates the full suite of Google apps including Google Maps with Street View, transit and Wikipedia information, GTalk with Presence, Gmail, YouTube, Latitude and Google Calendar.

Other key features of the smarpthone include: 3.7-inch WVGA touchscreen with 16 million colors support and 854 x 480 pixels resolution, 5.0-megapixel camera with autofocus, face detection and image stabilization, 8GB internal memory, microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB, 8GB card included), WiFi 802.11 b/g/n.
