The team at Valve in charge of the long-term development of DOTA 2 announces that this year's The International tournament for the Multiplayer Online Battle Arena title is set to take place from August 3 to August 8 in Seattle.

The official reveal is relatively short and also explains that 16 teams will take part, with all those invited set to be revealed a little after May 1.

Tickets for those who want to be part of the action in Seattle during August will be announced at a later date, and the company is not yet willing to say how many gamers will be able to attend in person.

Presumably, The International 2015 for DOTA 2 will also get extensive coverage online, with extensive streaming options for all those who want to watch the matches at home.

Valve is also not announcing any information on the prizes that will be offered this year or on whether it plans to launch a new version of the Compendium in order to allow the community to contribute.

Last year, more than 20 million people showed their interest in the DOTA 2 event, and more than 2 million were online at the same time, watching matches and commenting on the action.

The DOTA 2 Compendium showed the dedication of the fan base, which increased more than 5 million dollars (3.9 million Euro) to the grand prize of The International in 2014.

DOTA 2 is a long-term project for Valve

The MOBA field is getting increasingly crowded, with companies from Riot Games with League of Legends to Blizzard with Heroes of the Storm trying to attract the attention of gamers.

When it comes to major events, The International for DOTA 2 is arguably the biggest, and Valve will certainly want to make the Seattle tournament a spectacle for the entire community, celebrating the players and showing how exciting high-level matches can be.

It will be interesting to see what teams the company invites to take part and if there are any innovations introduced in the game before the big event takes place.
