Video game developer Valve announces that DOTA 2 no longer requires any sort of sign-up, which means that the Multiplayer Online Battle Arena experience is now open to all players who are interested in trying out its core mechanics.

The company explains in an official blog post that it is now sure that its server infrastructure has the capacity required to deal with all the gamers who might log in.

Valve says, “We’ve used this system to gradually increase the size of our playerbase, as we ramped up our infrastructure and improved the experience for new players.”

It adds, “As we have recently completed a set of server management upgrades as well as released a huge number of enhancements to the new user experience, we’re going to remove all restrictions to playing Dota 2.”

A new recruitment system for DOTA 2 has also been introduced to allow players who have already played the MOBA and have experience with it to bring in friends and get access to a number of interesting bonuses.

The game has been out since summer of this year and Valve has been delivering constant updates for it in order to improve the core experience based on player feedback.

Support will ramp up in the coming weeks and months in order to deal with the expected influx of new players.

DOTA 2 uses all the core mechanics of the MOBA genre and is created, in part, by the developer who made it first as a mod for Warcraft III.

The entire experience is free-to-play and Valve is constantly running specially themed events to make sure that the community remains engaged.

DOTA 2 is facing tough competition from League of Legends, which is created by Riot Games, and from the upcoming Heroes of the Storm from Blizzard.
