LG is one of those companies with multiple business outlets and it seems that, in this particular instance, it chose to further its cause on the display market by revealing a new 3D monitor.

The market for liquid crystal displays has been seeing new additions more or less every day, or at least every week, something that is not really surprising.

Also, with the growing popularity of 3D, monitors and TVs capable of rendering such content have grown in number.

LG is now taking its turn, again, at making its contribution in this field, having developed the DM50D, a product that can qualify as both a monitor and an HDTV.

Apparently, the press release not not specify the screen size, but the name does suggest 50 centimeters, which is the rough equivalent of 20 inches.

That said, the flicker free capabilities of the Cinema 3D TV series are implemented into this newcomer, as is the ability to view images and videos directly from USB flash drives. Also, the 3D technology used is the passive one.

"Our consumer research showed that while interest in 3D monitors was high, there were certain misgivings about the cumbersome glasses, reported health concerns and lack of 3D content," said Si-hwan Park, vice president of the monitor division at LG's Home Entertainment Company.

"Through CINEMA 3D technology, the DM50D addresses all of these concerns, leaving users free to be completely immersed in the best quality 3D content and gaming on any monitor on the market today."

For connectivity to PCs and other 3D-capable electronics, like game consoles (among other things), LG threw in not just HDMI, but also a DVT tuner.

Finally, next month (July, 2011), is when prospective buyers can expect the newcomer to come forth and begin shipping, along with the obligatory glasses, for an as of yet unspecified price.
