Guitar Hero might get DJ controller

It seems that DJ Hero, the music simulation videogame coming from Activision this fall, will, after all, allow other players to pick up a guitar controller and riff over the scratches delivered by the gamer who handles the turn table controller.

At first site, it appears to be a cool mechanic suggesting that tracks get to be pretty varied and will allow for quite a lot of improvisation. The only question is what does this integration mean for the future synergy between the Guitar Hero and DJ Hero game series.

Brian Bright, who is a director working on the development of Guitar Hero 5, told Eurogamer that integration between the two titles might not be too far away. He stated that “We've worked with, talked to them about the game for a couple of years now, looked at different builds and played it. We would love to integrate in the future.”

The turn table controller will not make an appearance in Guitar Hero 5 itself, mainly because of the release dates of the two products, with DK Hero coming some months after the guitar game. But support for the fresh peripheral could be added in a gameplay patch or included in another Guitar Hero release.

Interestingly, the collaboration could go much further, with drum controllers added to DJ Hero at some point. Why stop there and not add another guitar and voice streams? Probably because the DJ Hero name would not be justified anymore.

Such integration between the titles could mean that, in a short while, Activision decides to ditch the DJ Hero series altogether and offer Guitar Hero as a complete package, consisting of instruments and the turntable peripheral. Maybe DJ Hero is nothing but a test to see how much interest scratching generates and to evaluate the pros and cons of putting DJ-like controls in Guitar Hero 6 and beyond.
