Adam Goldstein found dead of overdose

He was a regular presence on the party scene, having long crossed over from being just a disc-jokey to a bona fide celebrity. 36-year-old Adam Goldstein, generally known as DJ AM, was found dead in his apartment this Friday. His death has already been ruled an overdose, after police discovered drug paraphernalia on the scene and learned that he had been struggling with severe depression, NBC New York informs.

Sources are telling the media that Goldstein, who was once engaged to be married to Nicole Richie and whose friends included anyone from Paris Hilton to Travis Barker and Ryan Seacrest, had not been seen or heard of in days before his body was found. Friends became so worried about him, knowing as they did that he was suffering from depression, that they eventually went up to his apartment, where they found him unresponsive. DJ AM was pronounced dead on the arrival of the paramedics, with the cause of death being listed as an overdose.

Ironically enough, Goldstein had been sober for nine years in a row and was even in talks with MTV to start working on a reality show, called “Gone Too Far” and meant to help young people overcome their addictions. As of now, there are no signs that might point to suicide, reports say, but that’s a possibility the police are not yet ready to discard altogether. Apparently, DJ AM never fully recovered after the plane crash last year that only he and close friend Travis Barker survived. Four other people died, while the two sustained serious injuries: post-traumatic stress pushed DJ AM back to drugs again, friends believe.

“Celebrity disc-jockey DJ AM was found dead in SoHo Friday afternoon. He was 36 years old. The body of DJ AM, born Adam Goldstein, was found on the seventh floor of an apartment building at 210 Lafayette Street, law-enforcement sources said. DJ AM had not been heard from for a few days, and one of his friends went to check on him, but got no response after knocking on his apartment door, law-enforcement sources said. The friend then called the police, who broke into the apartment at about 5:30 p.m. Friday and found the DJ’s body.” NBC New York says.

As we speak, celebrities are taking to Twitter to express their sadness at DJ AM’s passing, while his loyal fans are still trying to come to terms with what has just happened.
