The Inspiron family now has a new member, the Inspiron 6000 computer announced today includes multimedia capabilities and productivity features found only on very expensive notebooks.

The wide screen (15.4 inch) format will certainly make the user feel much more comfortable while browsing large music libraries via the backlit front-and-center multimedia keys. Connectivity speaking, Dell Inspiron 6000 offers a great range of ports including a IEEE 1394 port and a Secure Digital memory card slot, allows customers to transfer content to and from electronic devices like digital cameras, portable music and media players, and multimedia enhanced handheld devices, including the Dell Axim X50v.

Prices start at S$2,467, which include Intel's new 915GM system chipset and integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900, which should lower power intake, extend battery life and increase visual quality and performance.

Think only cell phones have interchangeable covers? Well, so does this Inspiron 6000, which originally comes in a white and silver case, but it allows users to personalize their system through four new interchangeable personalization covers: Cherry Burlwood, Carbon Fiber, Mediterranean Blue and Charcoal Leather.

Users can opt for a Pentium M ranging from M 730 (1.60GHz, 533MHz FSB, 2MB Cache) to the M 760 (2.0GHz, 533MHz FSB, 2MB Cache). Dell endowed the Inspiron 6000 with only 256 MB of DDR2, but that can be upgraded to a whopping 2 gigs of DDR2 at 400MHz (shared system memory).

Intel's Media Accelerator 900 Graphics (up to 128 MB shared memory) combined with the Wide Aspect Display (15.4-inch) amke watching DVDs on this system an exquisite experience. The system has an integrated modem and 10/100 Ethernet solutions, but it can also include Wi-Fi 802.11b/g or 802.11a/b/g. The optical drives associated with the Inspiron 6000 range from plain DVD players to combos and Double Layer3 DVD+/-RW/+R4.
