Prolexic releases infographic to explain DDOS attacks and defense strategies

Distributed denial-of-service (DDOS) solutions provider Prolexic has released an infographic that sums up the most important things about DDOS attacks and defense strategies.

According to the company, DDOS attacks are usually motivated by extortion, hacktivism, hacker experiments, angry customers or employees, and retaliation by competitors.

In the first phase, the attackers identify their targets (web, DNS, email or FTP servers), after which they start investigating them by scanning ports and footprinting the network.

When the operation starts, cybercriminals must specify their target’s IP address, port, and the type of attack they’re launching – DNS, UDP or SYN.

The infographic also shows how Prolexic solutions can help an organization protect itself against such threats.
