D-Link, an end-to-end networking solutions provider for consumer and business, today released a 200 Mbps (megabits per second) Powerline Ethernet Adapter and Kit - the DHP-301. It seems that any Ethernet-ready device can easily be added to a home network using the new D-Link Powerline adapters, and the technology is also suited for next generation applications such as high-definition media streaming, music sharing and online multi-player gaming.

More precisely, the D-Link Powerline Ethernet Adapter Kit contains two adapters, one Ethernet cable and an installation compact disk. In order to connect to the home network, the user must simply plug in one adapter to a router and the other to an Ethernet-ready device such as a personal computer, High Definition TV, digital video recorder or a game console.

"By introducing our Powerline Ethernet Adapter and Kit, we are making it that much easier for consumers to enjoy the benefits of a true digital home designed for high-definition media streaming, online gaming and more," said AJ Wang, chief technical officer for D-Link. "The technology is fast, extremely easy-to-use, and is a natural complement to our popular wired and wireless home networking for streaming data into areas of a home where it may be difficult to run an Ethernet cable or achieve a strong wireless signal."

Powerline is said to be, in fact, a new technology that is a fast and cost-effective alternative to the traditional Ethernet installations that require twisted-pair cables to connect PCs directly or via hubs, switches or routers.

D-Link's Powerline Ethernet Adapter and Kit are expected to hit the retail market and online stores in the third quarter of 2006, at a suggested price of $299 for the kit and $129 for individual adapters.
