CyberLink has just announced that it has released new updates for its PowerDVD, PowerDirector, MediaShow and MediaEspresso applications which now enables hardware accelerated video playback, transcoding and rendering on the AMD Fusion family of processors.

The updates can be downloaded free of charge by all those who own CyberLink's software programs and are available via the CyberLink Update Center.

According to the company, by using the UVD 3 (Unified Video Decoder) engine built in the AMD Fusion APUs, as well as the Accelerated Parallel Processing (APP) technology, rendering speed in PowerDirector can be improved by up to 370%.

In addition, MediaEspresso can receive a 2.75x performance boost when transcoding video files while Full HD Blu-ray playback in PowerDVD uses up to 70% less CPU power, prolonging the battery life of the notebook as well as increasing the energy efficiency of the device.

The last application from CyberLink's list to get improved performance thanks to the new updates is MediaShow, AMD's APU accelerating facial recognition in FaceMe by up to 35%.

“CyberLink and AMD are working toward a common goal: enabling the visually intense future of computing and media playback.

“We’re excited to continue our work with the CyberLink team as they optimize their applications for AMD Fusion APUs,” said John Taylor, director of Client Product and Software Marketing for AMD.

“Bringing a theater-quality experience into the home is precisely the type of application for which we designed our Fusion products,” concludes the company's rep.

The AMD Fusion series of processors packs together one or two out-of-order Bobcat computing cores with a DirectX-11 compliant on-die GPU and powers various netbooks, portable notebooks and nettops.

Previously, AMD has announced that is working together with ViVu to develop a technology that would allow AMD Fusion-powered devices to wirelessly stream HD video content to various devices.

The technology is similar to Intel's WiDi in its functionality, but it doesn't require any additional hardware to be installed.
