Cyanogen wants to replace Google’s services one by one

It’s no secret that Cyanogen has big plans of pushing Android away from Google’s grasp and expanding it in ways that we never thought possible.

The company has just inked a deal with Android startup Truecaller, which created a service that aims to identify the number that is calling you.

While some of you might be wondering why such a feature might come in-handy, the creators of the app believe that people would like to know whether they are receiving a legit call or a marketing company is attempting to contact them.

And Cyanogen will be using Truecaller’s expertise in order to make your phonebooks smarter.

Cyanogen is trying to distract you from Google

The partnership will see Truecaller’s features become deeply embedded into Cyanogen OS dialer. But Truecaller offers a few extra features that Google’s default Android dialer app does not.

First of all, it can block spam, a feature that Cyanogen hopes users will really enjoy. The second feature that will be included in Cyanogen OS is a sort of crowdsourced rating system, as users will apparently be able to mark a certain number as spam, and when that number tries to reach them, it will be possible to see how many times it has been marked as spam by other users, by getting a message like “635 people marked this as spam.”

As you can see, Cyanogen is working hard to emulate all the features Google is normally offering in Android and to make them even better. The company also turned to Boxer, which it plans to use as a Gmail app replacement. On top of that, Cyanogen is also looking towards Nextvit’s Baton in the hopes of bringing that iPhone-like Continuity feature to their operating system.

Not so long ago, Cyanogen announced it had partnered up with Microsoft in order to embed some of Redmond’s apps into its custom builds as well. However, the deal applies only to the consumer-friendly Cyanogen OS and not to CyanogenMod.

Going back to the Truecaller native dialer app, once the feature is ready, Cyanogen will probably push an OTA update which will add the new option to all devices running the OS, including the OnePlus One and YU Yureka.
