One of the most colorful and out of the ordinary designers out there, Vivienne Westwood, believes that today's fashion is the worst yet. We've become so accustomed to the so-called trend of “fast fashion” that we no longer care to make a statement with our clothes, she says.

Dame Westwood, arguably one of the most hip and appreciated designers of our times, recently unveiled a new collection at the London Fashion Week.

While she admits she too is prone to making huge mistakes, she believes others don't even know they could dare to be a bit more original where their style is concerned.

“Everybody looks like clones and the only people you notice are my age. I don’t notice anybody unless they look great, and every now and again they do, and they are usually 70,” she says in a new interview cited by the Daily Mail.

She blames today's need for speed for the direction fashion has taken, but that doesn't make it any less lamentable.

“We are so conformist, nobody is thinking. We are all sucking up stuff, we have been trained to be consumers and we are all consuming far too much,” Dame Westwood says.

“I’m a fashion designer and people think, what do I know? But I’m talking about all this disposable [stuff],” she adds.

Vivienne recalls a time when people would actually pay attention to how they dressed and even invested a lot of effort into their look, once out the door.

With large supermarkets now offering their own clothing lines at a fraction of the price of similar items in stores (not to mention knock-offs available online), it's become easier to shop for clothes.

Not only that, but such an action is now almost automatic, one doesn't even put that much thought into it.

“In history people dressed much better than we do today. If you saw Queen Elizabeth it would be amazing, she came from another planet. She was so attractive in what she was wearing,” the designer says.

“People have never looked so ugly as they do today regarding their dress,” she adds.

Westwood's solution would be, of course, something colorful, extremely wacky and, at the same time, very original – just like her creations.
