A new shooter is in the making and if that is not big news then the fact that it caries the Crytek name should tell us something. Crytek UK have already started development on a title that they hope will prove to be a "defining game series" for the newly formed studio, and which will focus on both the single player and multiplayer aspects according to Develop, which got to speak with the Crytek UK studio manager, Karl Hilton.

"We are currently concepting up an original IP that we hope will become a defining game series for the UK studio," he said. "However, in reality, the opportunity to make any kind of original FPS genre game where we get to focus on the quality of both the multiplayer and single player experience is what drives people at the studio." It looks like FarCry and Crysis did more than just make gamers fall in love with them; they won the hearts of programmers as well.

"We have a strong history of creativity here, and we want to take that forward with Crytek and the CryENGINE 3," Hilton added. Crytek UK is composed of what was left of Free Radical after Crytek bought the studio in February. The current developers managed to produce some quality games in the past and are renowned for their TimeSplitters series, which currently has a forth installment in the making. Another name in their pedigree is the older N64 Goldeneye 007. Crytek has so far released some truly amazing shooters and we can only hope that this new branch of the German developer will rise to the challenge.

Meanwhile, the big company, Crytek, is working on a sequel to the original Crysis, the proper Crysis 2 that people first expected Crysis Warhead to be. Warhead was a spin-off based on the original title that told the same story but through the eyes of nano-suit trooper Psycho. The game proved a nice addition to the series, with plenty of new things. The storyline still relied on what the original provided, but brought enough to the table to be an individual product. The game also tweaked the CryEngine 2 and delivered better performance so that more players could enjoy the eye-candy it had to offer.
