After a pretty major leak last week, Electronic Arts and Crytek have officially unveiled Crysis 3, the next installment in the sci-fi shooter series, that will once again take players to New York City, which is now a tropical jungle, not just a concrete one.

Crysis 2 delivered a great experience last year, building upon the first two games, Crysis 1 and Warhead, while showing off the all-new CryEngine 3 technology.

Now, Crytek has unveiled the next game in the series, in the form of Crysis 3.

As we heard last week, things are quite different, as while you still roam the streets of New York as Prophet in your trusty Nanosuit, the city has been transformed into a jungle.

“Players take on the role of ‘Prophet' as he returns to New York, only to discover that the city has been encased in a Nanodome created by the corrupt Cell Corporation,” the game’s description says. “The New York City Liberty Dome is a veritable urban rainforest teeming with overgrown trees, dense swamplands and raging rivers. Within the Liberty Dome, seven distinct and treacherous environments become known as the Seven Wonders.”

Throughout his adventures in the dome, Prophet will use not just his enhanced Nanosuit and trusty array of customizable weapons, but also a brand new and quite lethal composite bow that will help him in his fight against Cell.

"Crysis 3 is a thrilling mix of sandbox gameplay, advanced combat and hi-tech human and alien weaponry that shooter fans will love," said Cevat Yerli, chief executive officer of Crytek. "Leveraging the latest CryEngine technology, we're able to deliver seven unique themes that offer stunning and visually loaded gameplay experiences. We cannot wait until people get their hands on the game."

As you can see in the images below, Crysis 3 builds upon the previous games in the series, combining the New York setting of the last game with the jungle one seen in the first two installments.

Enemies, or at least Ceph alien ones, will make a comeback, but you can expect quite a lot of new threats to appear.

Until 2013, when the new game is launched, rest assured that more details will be made available.
