Michael Read, a producer working on the upcoming Crysis 3, says that the game will offer a balance between the open-world elements that dominated in the first game in the series and the more linear levels that were featured in the second entry in the franchise.

Speaking to the Official PlayStation Magazine, the developer says, “I still believe that some of the ‘linear’ comments we get regarding Crysis 2 have to do more with the visuals that people were presented with in the game using a closed off space like NYC urban grid. The freedom element was still there to some extent, but presented in a different way.”

Crysis 3 is the game that will blend the two different approaches to level development and will offer players clear goals to achieve while also giving them a lot of ways to approach the same situation.

Read also offers information on the new environments, saying, “We were really able to identify a lot of the merits from the first two games in terms of the environment and capitalize on those for Crysis 3. The mix between broken down urban, lush rainforest, and more open spaces only helps to reinforce this experience.”

Crysis 3 takes the player back to New York, which has been now covered with a biodome.

This means that the ruins of the famous city have now been covered in a lot of vegetation, which creates something that Ubisoft calls an urban jungle.

Gamers will play the role of Nomad and they will be able to use a number of new tools, including a bow, and the powers of their Nanosuit in order to navigate the area and ambush a number of new enemies.

Crysis 3 is expected during February 2013 on the PC, the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3.
