The phase change cooler is meant for overclockers who want to push the limits of their systems

Fort those enthusiasts who already have a good CPU and enough memory to push its clock over the top, OCZ introduces the final element needed for any overclocked configuration, a cooling solution capable of keeping any processors at low temperatures, the Cryo-Z. This cooler is a complex machine that is capable of pushing core temperatures as low as -40 degrees Celsius to -55 degrees Celsius. Although it will likely not be used on a constant basis, considering that overclocked processors don't last long, the product will potentially become quite popular among hard-core and professional overclockers.

Of course, the Cryo-Z has its disadvantages, as all devices do. The product is bulky, painfully heavy (26 kilograms) and its size (18” x 8.2” x 10.1”) implies that it requires a customized computer case in order to function. Still, when a working installment is set up and the nozzle is connected to the CPU, the Cryo-Z will pre-cool the CPU and only allow system power up after the core temperature drops to -30 degrees. Automated system shutdown will be initiated once the temperature rises above 70 degrees Celsius.

The Cryo Z is built user-friendly, with its cooled parts insulated so as to avoid condensation and exposing the cold surfaces to the ambient case air. Also, the product comes with a heating element, which, when installed behind the motherboard, will prevent condensation so as to remove the risks of short-circuits. The control over the startup and shutdown functions of the system is achieved through routing the motherboard-power button connection through the cooler itself.

“The Cryo-Z was developed for enthusiasts looking to push their systems further with affordable yet high performance phase change cooling. We are thrilled that Frozen CPU has taken our solution and made it even better with a custom mounting plate which extends the compatibility of this product to the latest CPU platforms, making the Cryo-Z even more of a total solution for enthusiasts,” Justin Shong, senior vice president of sales for the OCZ Technology Group, said.

The Cryo-Z might become quite popular thanks to its high-performance, user-friendliness and rather low cost, namely $380. The product will come bundled with mounting plates for AM2, LGA 775, LGA 1366 and LGA 1156 form-factor CPUs and will have a 30-day, limited warranty. The device is sold exclusively through the FrozenCPU online store.
