Good news, people! It turns out it might not be very long until cruel animal tests are no longer carried out, and not because activists have pleaded times and times again that they be outlawed, but simply because they have become obsolete.

Bioengineering expert Alan Faulkner-Jones with the Heriot Watt University says that, as far as she can tell, it will only be about five years' time before technological advances allow researchers to work with lab-made cells and tissues instead of animals.

According to Inhabitat, the cells and tissues that scientists will be able to use instead of bunnies, mice and whatnot will most likely be 3D-printed ones.

The bioengineering expert explains that, apart from bringing about the demise of the cruel practice of testing drugs and cosmetics on animals, lab-made cells and tissues, maybe even organs, will make drug testing a far more effective and accurate business.
