Wasteland 2 got more money via its Kickstarter funding than it needed, and this means those working on the game can focus on creating a gaming experience that appeals to those who have donated money, rather than targeting the entire role-playing interested public.

Brian Fargo, the leader of the inXile development team working on the game, told Ripten that, “The thing about this project being fan-funded is that I’m not worried about this new group of people and how they might get it. This is being made for people that grew up playing Wasteland, Fallout and Fallout 2.”

The focus on a core group of players does not mean that others will not be able to pick up and enjoy Wasteland 2, and Fargo promises that the game experience will be accessible and the mechanics easy to understand.

The developer also admitted a number of failures linked to his Bard’s Tale remake and said that he learned from the experience.

Fargo added, “I set out to do a light RPG that was a parody. For that effort, I think I deserve an A. For the hard core, they wanted an absolute Bard’s Tale sequel, so for them, it was an F. In my defense, I accomplished what I set out to do.

“Just like with this Wasteland game, this is what we’re going out to do: old-school RPG, deep cause and effect, dialog, exploration, etc. We’re now going to execute that.”

Wasteland 2 has managed to get more than 1.5 million dollars (1.12 million Euro) from fans and Brian Fargo has said that the team is ready to start working on the game, although a launch date has not yet been mentioned.

Wasteland 2 will be a direct sequel to the classic role-playing game from 1988 and should appeal to those who have recently enjoyed Fallout 3 and New Vegas.
