Michael Strahan hosted the Critics’ Choice Awards 2015, which took place last night in Los Angeles and aired on A&E, and his opening monolog was pretty much a plug for his next movie, the “Magic Mike” sequel oh-so-subtly called “Magic Mike XXL.”

You can see a video of it below, on the condition you are not from a restricted territory.

The number opened with a group of male dancers shaking their bums on stage as they ripped off their jackets, shirts and pants to show off their toned bodies and suggestive dance moves. Strahan also busted a couple of moves, while laughing that he’d tricked guests who had assumed that he would also be dancing in his underwear – because, obviously, the gala was not the place for this.

As openers go, this wasn’t the funniest or the most original, but it wasn’t offensively bad either. Strahan continued by “pitching” ideas to the favorites of the night, including Ethan Hawke and Michael Keaton, trying to convince them to consider him for their next projects.

He closed with “Maybe next year I’ll be down there with you nominees for my role in Magic Mike, you never know!” but no one laughed or applauded, which is to say they were all thinking, “no, Michael, it’s never going to happen!”

Worried that he might get cut out of the movie because he didn’t have that much lines to begin with, Michael managed to squeeze another plug before walking off: so he removed his pants and danced some more.

When Keaton walked on stage to accept his award later in the evening, he called Strahan’s opener “awkward.” He wasn’t wrong.
