Creative introduces Xmod device that offers the same quality sound as any X-FI card with one exception: it is a portable device that can connect to PCs, notebooks and MACs to create an Xtrem Fidelity sound system. The device is plug-and-play ready and it is instantly recognized by PCs.

Xmod is about the size of a candy bar and incorporates all those important features that the top of the line X-FI cards boast. Xmod can restore the details and vibrance lost under MP3 compression and can provide any stereo speaker system or headphones with an incredible surround sound experience.

Creative claims that all X-FI family products can deliver an experience beyond studio quality. Xmod can restore all that compressed data, expanding it to surround sound and intelligently enhancing the highs and lows. All this through the same X-FI 24-bit Crystalizer. The CMSS-3D chip is said to perfectly simulate surround sound even on 2.1 stereo speakers or headphones. Voices are centered in front of the listener and the ambient sound is enhanced in order to appear all around the subject. While listening with the headphones on, Xmod moves the sound away from the listener's ears and it projects sound waves all around him/her. The headphones can now deliver 9 virtual channels to practically immerse the listener.

The package also includes a pair of earphones, a USB cable and a user's guide. Xmod will retail for a suggested price of $79.99 in October.
