A console-focused real time strategy

SEGA is delivering news that developer Creative Assembly is working on a strategy title for the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3. The game, which is developed by the Australian studio of CA, is called Stormrise and will be set in a post-apocalyptic future where two factions need to fight for resources.

The console-focused project will be quite different from the Total War series which Creative Assembly is best known for. The overall strategic layer of the game appears to be gone, with the focus moving on the tactical situations that front line commanders for the two factions must face. One of the main selling points for the game will be the fact that vertical disposition of the forces will play a big role, with underground attacks possible and rooftop action sure to keep all players on their toes.

The two factions that the game will feature are clich?s used in many post-apocalyptic settings. On one hand, we have the Echelon, an organization that survived the extinction level event by entering cryogenic sleep. They are few but their technology is highly advanced. On the other hand, we get the Sai, a tribe-like confederation of people that have adapted to the harsh environment in which they live, while being technologically less advanced.

The developers promise to provide a control scheme that makes console real time strategies as easy to play as those for the PC.

The only console effort so far from Creative Assembly has been Viking: Battle for Asgard, a game which did not do too well critically and commercially.

The game is being readied for a late 2009 release and, apart from the confirmed Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions, it seems that a PC edition of the game will also be created, although the launch might be set some months after the console release. More information regarding the game will be provided at E3.
