A herd of cattle escaped from an overturned trailer and caused mayhem in a Bristol neighborhood on Friday afternoon, it has been reported.

Local authorities inform that a police officer was injured and residents’ cars and gardens were damaged when eight cows escaped from the tractor and trailer that was transporting them. The vehicle overturned at the junction of Winterbourne Road and Old Gloucester Road just before 12.15pm, and the escaped animals started to run amok on surrounding roads.

Police was called at the scene to deal with the animals and officers spent three hours trying to round the herd up. One officer suffered injuries when one of the cows ran into him. He was transported to hospital with bruises, but was released shortly after.

“Officers attended the scene to try and round up the cows. One of the officers was injured after a cow ran into him and he was taken to Frenchay Hospital. He suffered bruising but escaped more serious injury because he had his body armour on,” said Craig Evry, Avon and Somerset police spokesman, according to Daily Mail.

The cows were filmed running loose through Bradley Stoke, and reports say that at one point, one of them was shot by police officers at the request of the farmer because it had become agitated.

Many residents came home on Friday afternoon to find their gardens trampled or their cars damaged.
