Cowon flashes out its new groovy media player! Dubbed Q5W, the portable device is said to be Wi-Fi enabled and a whole more than you may expect. Why? Well, for a start it reveals a plenteous 5-inch color TFT LCD touchscreen display with a WVGA 800 x 480 pixels resolution, which works with both fingers and the included stylus.

As for the player's hardware, it's worth mentioning that the device supports WiFi 802.11b, sports 64MB of NOR Flash memory and 128 DDR SDRAM, as well as an 1.8-inch HDD with a capacity of up to 60 GB. It gets juiced up via a single internal lithium-polymer battery of 6500mA and takes about 5.5 hours for a complete recharge, via an adapter.

Since size matters when purchasing PMPs, I suppose 5.46 x 3.48 x 0.79 inch should be just the right proportions to make you want to handle one. When it comes to the player's capabilities, it can deal with a bunch of nifty stuff, such as decoding lots of file formats, including MP3, WMA, ASF, OGG, WAV, FLAC, APE and MPC. Moreover, the player can also handle audio codecs like MPEG 1/2/2.5 layer 3, WMA, OGG Vorbis, Wave, FLAC, APE and MusePack. Photo fans should be more than happy to know that Q5W can also display JPG, BMP, PNG, NEF with sizes up to 10MB. Oh, and yes, it can also act as a genuine e-Book reader, as it is compatible with TXT files up to 7MB.

Supported video formats include AVI, ASF, WMV, MPG and OGM ones, while the video resolution is said to be of a maximum 720 x 480 pixels. The Cowon PMP can also operate in TV-Out mode, meaning the media content can be watched on larger screens. File transfer management uses USB 2.0 interface.

Good to know, even though the media player uses Windows CE, it should work just fine with both Macs and PCs. So, if an immense desire to get one of this for your sweetheart has suddenly banged you, you should first know that both the 40Gb and the 60GB versions are available to order. Cost should be the last thing on you mind, that is if 550 bucks and $600, respectively, is just your pocket money!
