As the bride’s mother also points out for the media, it was not exactly the way a bride should look but, for what it’s worth, it was one of the most original wedding ceremonies a regular couple ever took part of. Christine and Keith became Mrs. and Mr. Green (no pun intended) as Princess Fiona and Shrek from the popular cartoon, as the Daily Mail can confirm.

They’re not celebrities, but their fairytale wedding has catapulted them to the status of overnight stars in the UK. The bride and groom did not really want to do something out of the ordinary for their wedding, but Christine decided one day that Keith looked too much like Shrek, the ogre, to let the opportunity pass them by. So, they exchanged vows in a very original way, spending no less than three hours with a makeup artist before the ceremony, to look just like the cartoon characters.

“The idea just came to me. I knew what we would go as because Keith looks just like Shrek. It was funny because when we said our vows Keith had these green ears sprouting from the top of his head.” 40-year-old Christine says for the publication. Her 18-year-old son, although thrilled by the idea, refused to attend the ceremony as Donkey, yet another popular character in the “Shrek” films, simply telling his mother that he was not “having any of it.”

44-year-old Keith, a builder by profession when he’s not doing his best ogre impersonation, was equally delighted by the idea, although he hadn’t thought about it beforehand either. “It was a very strange experience to say the least, but a thoroughly enjoyable one. We love the films and my wife tells me I bear a resemblance to Shrek.” Mr. Green says for the Mail. Since he does not mind being likened to an ogre – which, as fans must know, was not quite too popular with people in the films – he did not see a problem with getting in full makeup for the wedding.

Annette England, Christine’s 66-year-old mother, says that her daughter’s ceremony was the weirdest she has ever taken part in, beyond any doubt. However, while it was not quite her idea of a perfect bride, she admits the ceremony was incredibly fun. Then again, if the newlyweds are happy, whether they stick to tradition or not is perhaps not really that important.
