There is always competition on every segment of the IT market, with hardware makers doing their best to always outdo their competitors in at least one or more ways. On the memory front, this competition usually spawns faster modules. Recently, Patriot and G.Skill got a fair bit of attention after they unveiled memory products capable of reaching a 2,500MHz frequency. Now, Corsair is once again taking the lead with the Dominator GTX4.

The Dominator GTX 4 is built out of carefully selected DRAMs from Powerchip Semiconductor and has a maximum clock speed of 2,533MHz. This means that these memory modules are capable of pushing CPUs higher than it was possible until now. Also, they have timings of 9-11-10-30 and operate on a voltage of 1.65V.

Of course, as with all great inventions, there is a catch. Specifically, the individual modules cannot exceed the 1GB capacity, which is why the only currently available dual channel kit has a capacity of 2GB. Still, this will likely be made up for by the speed. In fact, Corsair tested each module on a Core i7 system based on a Gigabyte P55 motherboard and claims that most processors will need special cooling solutions if they hope to run the modules at top speeds.

“The GTX4 modules are truly Corsair’s greatest expression of the memory overclocker’s art,” Michal Nowicki, a.k.a. Bachus, master overclocker at Corsair, stated. “These modules are so fast that most CPUs will require sub-ambient cooling to run them at their maximum speed. Each GTX4 module represents hours of my work in the lab, and is authenticated by me personally.”

The 2GB dual channel kit has already been put up for order at a price of $325, but is available in a very limited quantity, because of the intensive testing procedure that all GTX4 modules must pass. The product is backed by a lifetime warranty.
