Solid State Drive technology is improving at an amazing pace, as we see a series of companies rolling out new products that deliver a level of performance that is seriously impressive. After the launch of Intel's mainstream and enterprise SSDs, companies with access to Flash memory technology have been trying to develop new solutions that can provide users with a higher level of performance, compared to the solutions that are currently available in the market. Corsair is one of them, as it will reportedly launch a new 256GB SSD that can deliver read and write speeds in the 200MB/s mark.

According to a recent article on Hot Hardware, which was lucky enough to score a sample of these new drives, Corsair is planning the launch of its ultra fast 256GB SSD. When it becomes available, the drive will be known as the Corsair P256 and will come with a total storage capacity of 256GB and a SATA-II interface. The new P256 SSD uses a Samsung S3C29RBB01-YK40 controller and Samsung memory chips, installed on a blue PCB. The entire solution will be encased in a heavy-duty aluminum enclosure and will most likely boast a 2.5-inch form factor.

As far as performance goes, the fellows over at Hot Hardware have put the new drive under some preliminary testing, using the HD Tach benchmark utility. According to the results they recorded, the new Corsair drive is capable of deliver a blazing speed of over 200MB/s for read and average write speeds of 169.1MB/s, with a 0.1ms random access speed. The bust speed of the drive is 248.2MB/s, according to HD Tach.

Unfortunately, the Corsair P256 will be priced at $749, which doesn't exactly land in the consumer market segment. However, we cannot deny that the P256 is ready to provide you with a balanced package that combines speed and capacity.
