Up to four times the speed of an ordinary drive

Corsair's Voyager USB flash drives are quite famous for being among the toughest such portable storage solutions around, but it seems that the company's not about to settle just for a very tough exterior. Thus, Corsair has just announced that it will release at this year's CeBIT 2008 another model from its GT series, offering 16 GB of storage space as well as enhanced data transfer rates.

Thus, the new Flash Voyager GT USB drive provides data transfer rates that are up to 4X faster than standard USB 2.0 drives. Moreover, the drive has been optimized to take full advantage of its advanced flash controller technology as well as the screened and hand-selected NAND flash chips. And the company also provides a very simple example of what the GT can do: a movie (1.63 GB) can be transferred in around 90 seconds, while 20 Office documents (around 1 MB) can be copied onto the drive in less than than 2 seconds.

Beside providing a high data transfer rate and a very large amount of storage space, the drive from Corsair also features those characteristics that have turned Voyager into a household name. Thus, the 16GB Flash Voyager GT utilizes Corsair's proprietary water and shock resistant all-rubber casing, meaning that users with busy and active lifestyles can be confident that their data is secure and protected from damage. Moreover, the device can also keep the user's data secure, as the included TrueCrypt encryption software offers AES 256-bit encryption.

"People expect Corsair to deliver the highest performing products," said Jack Peterson, VP of Corporate Marketing at Corsair. "That's why our latest Flash Voyager GT offers both higher speeds and higher capacities than standard USB drives, making them ideal for discerning customers," added Peterson.

However, the respective "discerning customers" will have to cough up quite a hefty sum for this thing, as the Flash Voyager 16GB GT has a recommended price of around 170 US dollars, which is well above the average for such products.

P.S. Softpedia will attend this year's CeBIT, so you can expect some live photos and some fiddling with Corsair's 16GB GT. So stay tuned next week for some exclusive coverage.
