14 DAY TRIAL // Intel likes to talk about the Core i5 and Core i7 high-end series of central processing units, but most consumers are unlikely to afford those monsters, which means that lower-end Core i5, Core i3 and Pentium chips will sell better.
The same goes for business-oriented central processing units, and it so happens that CPU World has figured out what the list will be, and what prices we can expect from that end.
The information comes from a number of online US stores, where the chips have showed up for pre-order. ShopBLT is an example of such a retailer.
We'll start with the Pentium units, since they are the weakest and cheapest of the lot. They are called Pentium G3220, G3420 and G3430.
All of them are dual-core units with no Hyper-Threading or Turbo Boost support. They have 3MB cache memory (L3, each) and a TDP of 54W, plus integrated HD graphics processors (iGPs) of 1,100 MHz.
What sets them apart is the clock frequency: 3 GHz, 3.2 GHz and 3.3 GHz, respectively. On that note, the prices are, or will be, of $70 / €70, $90 / €90 and $100 / €100.
Next up, the Core i3 chips are also three in number and lack Turbo Boost, but they do have Hyper-Threading, which means the 2 cores turn into 4 logical ones in Windows. They have the same 54W TDPs are the others.
The Core i3-4130 is a 3.4 GHz model with 3MB cache, HD 4400 graphics (1,150 MHz) and a price of $137 / €137.
The Core i3-4330 and Core i3-4340 are both 4 MB units with the same GPU as above, but 3.5/3.5 GHz clocks. They will sell for $154 / €154 and $165 / €165.
That leaves the Core i5-4440, a quad-core that lacks Hyper-Threading but gets 6 MB cache, HD 4600 graphics (1100 MHz), Turbo Boost (3.1/3.3 GHz frequency) and 84W TDP. Its price is of $197 / €197.
On a related note, CPU World has decided to go ahead and detail a high-end part too, the Core i7-4771, with 4 cores, 8 threads, 3.5/3.9 GHz speed, 8 MB cache, HD 4600 graphics (1200 MHz this time) and 84W TDP. Its price is of $333 / €333.
