An industry first that could change the world for the better

Man has become quite adept at making batteries, but not at recycling them. Maybe it was high time someone finally started to do it, and Energizer decided to be the first.

The new Energizer high-performance AA and AAA alkaline batteries are partially recycled. Or, to be more precise, are partially made from recycled cells and materials. They are called the EcoAdvanced.

The percentage is just 4% for now, but it could grow to 40% over the next 10 years. Always good to have something to look forward to.

If you can believe it, it took Energizer seven years to finally find a way to refine materials from old batteries into something that could be useful again.

The reason why the EcoAdvanced only has 4% recycled materials is not because of some limitation on Energizer's part, however. Instead, it is due to how few recyclers actually process batteries to begin with.

However, with a clear demand now in place, this should change, hence the 40% estimate for 2025.

Seeing as how EcoAdvanced are the highest-performing alkaline batteries in Energizer's lineup, you can be sure that the recycling doesn't harm their performance in the least. They are still disposable, not rechargeable (and, thus, less eco-friendly than rechargeable packs), but at least it's a step forward.
