Carrie Underwood is the latest celebrity to speak up for equality in marriage and she will most definitely not be the only one to be criticized for it. Conservative Christians are attacking her on Twitter for being pro-gay, it has emerged.

Various reports online indicate that, shortly after Carrie went on the record saying she believed everyone had the right to love, be loved and be married to the person they loved regardless of whether they were a man or a woman, angry voices started to be heard in the blogosphere.

They belonged mostly to conservative Christians and were heard mostly on Twitter, Oh No They Didn't notes, summing up online reports.

People, it would seem, believe that Carrie should not use the platform she has as a country singer to “promote” homosexuality. Least of all should she use her religion to do so.

“I warned @carrieunderwood fans that their idol was going to get backlash for her support of marriage perversion and I was right! #asusual,” one person writes.

“@carrieunderwood Is a disgrace. Being vegan and supporting gay marriage doesn’t seem very country at all,” another adds.

Other fellow Twitter users thought they saw in Carrie's statement of last week a clear sign that she's either the Devil or one of his advocates.

“Another day, and a another 'gospel' artist signed to 'EMI' comes out supporting gay marriage. @carrieunderwood Unequally signed to the devil,” one says.

“Using Christianity to defend and promote homosexuality is insulting. Ugh. Being Saved doesn’t stop you from being dumb. Jesus just let go of the wheel,” adds another.

For those not up to speed, just recently, Carrie said in an interview that she was supporting gay marriage because, as a married woman herself, she couldn't imagine how it must be like to love someone and be told that you can't be with them legally.

“Our church is gay friendly. Above all, God wanted us to love others. It’s not about setting rules, or [saying] 'everyone has to be like me.' No. We’re all different. That’s what makes us special,” she also said, before adding that God doesn't want us to judge one another.

Clearly, the people attacking her on Twitter right now did not read that last part of her statement.
