Since the two pretty much go hand in hand, just about every 3D HDTV manufacturer also outed at CES 2011 a couple of connected Blu-ray players, and that's exactly the case with Philips as well, the company introducing quite a few feature-packed products of this type.

Philips' new CES 2011 Blu-ray lineup includes five distinct model, most of which share, to some extent, the same features, delivering automatic standard-definition upscaling (in order for DVD quality videos to go as near as possible to Full HD image quality level) and AVCHD playback.

Naturally, it's also important to point out that the new Philips Blu-ray players process full 1080p at 24fps for cinema-like images.

Additional important features include 3D playback and support for Philips MediaConnect, NetTV, Netflix and Blockbuster streaming, that will grant users fast and easy access to a wealth of content readily available online, without requiring any wires for viewing content stored on their computer right on the display of their HDTVs.

"With the multitude of channels and movies available, the introduction of 3D movies and the simplicity of online streaming with the touch of a button, Blu-ray Disc is the consumer's choice for high-definition movies, music, games and more," said Todd Richardson, senior vice president of sales and marketing for P&F, the exclusive manufacturer and distributor for Philips televisions and home theater systems in the U.S.

"Our new Blu-ray players, enabled with Philips MediaConnect and NetTV, give the added value of being able to go online on your TV, regardless of the brand."

Unfortunately, Mr. Richardson has not provided any details regarding the pricing and/or availability of the company's new networked 3D Blu-ray players, but, to be perfectly honest, we weren't really expecting any miracles here, given the major CE manufacturers' tendency to “overlook” such details from their initial announcements.
