Sunnyvale, California-based Advanced Micro Devices, the world's second largest vendor of computer processors, has just announced that it has reached a new milestone, having managed to ship the 500 millionth x86 processor. According to the company, the milestone has been enabled by its 40 years of innovation, providing customers with a wide range of chips for server systems, high-performance gaming PCs, as well as HD-capable laptops, all designed to provide users with the best-in-class computing experience.

To celebrate the shipment of its 500 millionth x86 processor, the chip maker has announced that it will be giving away four HP Pavilion dv2 laptops, featuring the company's latest platform for ultrathin notebooks. Fans of AMD's products will have a chance at wining one of the four laptops by entering a competition that will be held via the company's Twitter account (@AMD_Unprocessed), where a new question will be posted every Monday, starting July 27. As follows are details for the competition:

Follow AMD on Twitter (@AMD_Unprocessed), where a new question will be posted every other Monday beginning July 27.

Send AMD the answer via a direct message to AMD's twitter handle @AMD_Unprocessed.

All eligible respondents will be entered into a drawing for an HP dv2z Notebook.

AMD will give away four AMD processor-based HP Pavilion dv2z notebooks over eight weeks, so fans have ample opportunities to show off their extensive knowledge about the company.

Although AMD is currently still behind Intel in the mainstream processor market, the company looks to improve its situation. Just recently, AMD managed to ship its much-anticipated Istanbul chips for server systems, providing its customers with increased performance and reduced power consumption, on-time. The latest Neo platform and the new dual-core 45nm-based Athlon II processors could also help the chip maker gain some of the market share it has lost to Intel.
