14 DAY TRIAL // Samsung has been said to be working on an AMOLED display tablet ever since last year. We expected these models to come in 8-inch and 10-inch flavors, but for some reason, they neither made an appearance at either CES 2014 or MWC 2014, nor did they leak online.
Sammy’s first AMOLED tablet, the Galaxy Tab 7.7, was launched back in 2011 and received pretty good feedback, so its successors were eagerly expected. But now SamMobile has reportedly received confirmation that an AMOLED tablet is certainly in the making at Samsung.
Apparently, the tablet will come in Wi-Fi, 3G and LTE variants (SM-T800, SM-T801 and SM-T805). These are the very models that appeared in a UAProf listing earlier this month.
So far, we don’t know the tablet’s screen size, it could be of either 8 inches or 10 inches, but the resolution is set at 2560 x 1600 pixels. Under the hood, we’re most likely going to stumble upon an Exynos 5 series processor probably fitted with 3GB of RAM.
The default operating system is Android 4.4.2 KitKat, but the tablet will run Samsung’s usual TouchWiz interface, including Magazine UX. Apparently, Samsung is testing several Galaxy S5 features on the AMOLED tablet, including the Ultra Power Saving Mode function, which is said to be capable of maintaining optimal battery levels.
This is a achieved by virtue of turning background data, color output of the display and other features deemed unnecessary (at the moment) off, which should prolong the lifespan of the slate.
Like Sammy’s premium line of TabPRO and NotePRO tablets, the new AMOLED tablet will come sporting a pretty high price tag, and could be marketed as a flagship device.
An AMOLED tablet has been anticipated for quite a while, but Samsung has been dragging things along for some time. Before CES, most of the information circling around the web claimed that Samsung would be releasing 8-inch and 10-inch AMOLED tablets by January, but we’re in March and nothing of the sort has appeared on the market.
However, towards the end of January, sources familiar with the matter reported by the Asian media claimed that Samsung would start mass production of its AMOLED panels somewhere in February/March. This fits perfectly with recent events and with the fact that a tablet fitting the description has finally left a trace online.
We have also told you that the Nexus 10 might turn out to be one of Sammy’s AMOLED tablets, but since then, HTC has been tipped to have taken up the production of this elusive tablet device.
So brace yourself, with this confirmation it seems that we’re getting closer to see Samsung unveil the much-awaited next-gen AMOLED tablet.
