Despite the relatively lukewarm reception of Duo 11, Sony pushes on

The Vaio Duo series of laptop-tablet hybrids from Sony came about when the company decided to try and stand apart from the other makers of convertible tablets/laptops.

And since rotating and 360-degree hinges had already been done often enough, the company chose a sliding mechanism that allows the screen half of the device to lay on top of the keyboard or slide up and backwards.

The Vaio Duo 11, an 11.6-inch model, was too expensive to catch on.

Now, Sony has introduced the Duo 13, a 13.3-inch device with hardware revolving around an Intel Haswell CPU. It is sturdier and just overall better than its forebear.

A pressure-sensitive stylus ships with it (almost no lag at all), the display resolution is Full HD 1080p, Art Rage Studio and VAIO Movie Creator are installed, etc.

The price remains high though: $1,399 / €1,068 – 1,399. Sales will start on June 9.
