Normally, when one thinks of personal computers, one's mind flies to either the widespread desktop PC made out of a big box and an auxiliary screen, or to a laptop or even an HTPC system. Still, CompuLab gives us yet another product, which, despite being palm-sized, is still a PC. The Israeli company has revealed plans for the release of its latest fit-PC2 ultra-compact personal computer, the fit-PC2i. This newest model will be exclusively aimed at networking and industrial application, packing only those features required by such installments.

The entire product measures 101 x 115 x 27 mm, which is just about as large as a regular mouse. Still, end-users will well know that a small size doesn't equal a weak performance, especially considering that even a 1.5-inch flash drive can pack about as much data as an ordinary hard drive.

The ultra-compact fit-PC2i houses in its aluminum case an Intel US15W SCH platform running an Atom Z-series central processing unit capable of a processing power of 1.1GHz to 2GHz. The device will have 1GB of Random Access Memory, but will be able to accommodate up to 2GB. The PC also has GMA 500 integrated graphics capabilities and will be able to house a 2.5-inch hard drive unit. The hard drive itself is not included in the standard offer, but the PC may come with an on-board 4GB solid state disk.

Even at the size of a mouse, the fit-PC2i still features a wide array of connectivity options. These include one output for DVI (capable of a 1920p x 1080p resolution) and WiFi. The product also features dual Gigabit Ethernet and, as I/O options, it has 5.1 channel audio and a miniSD card socket. Additional ports include a mini PCI Express socket and an RS232 serial port.

The device will become available for purchase in January and will come with one of the Windows XP, Windows Server, Windows 7 or Ubuntu Linux operating systems. The PC will consume 6W at low CPU load and 8W when the processor runs at the maximum speed. The fit-PC2i weighs 370 grams.
