Eurostar, a company based in the United Arab Emirates has released the ePad Femme, a tablet designed specifically for women. It boasts a pink background image filled with glitter and comes pre-loaded with cooking recipes. You know. ‘Cause that’s what women are all about (wink).

“We are easing out the hurdles of browsing or downloading applications with Android,” Mani Nair, head of marketing for Eurostar, told ABC News. “Preloaded are cooking recipes, a yoga app, Office on the go. They are very user-friendly.”

Problem: the company is trying to make it easy for women to browse and download apps with Android.

Solution: iPad mini

And that’s only if we really must differentiate. Here’s just a few reasons:

- Apple’s diminutive tablet is portable enough for any purse;

- iPad mini boasts the most intuitive and user-friendly mobile OS available;

- the tablet comes pre-loaded not with cooking apps, but with an equally friendly App Store that offers access to 800,000 apps, including games, utilities, books etc.;

- it doesn’t sell itself as a women’s / men’s tablet device – it’s just a really enjoyable product that both men and women use, period (no pun intended).

And what’s this thing about women needing a special type of tablet device? If these Eurostar folks were actually hoping to strike a chord with this product, they seriously need to do some more market research.

Here’s what a 29 year-old woman told ABC when she heard about Eurostar’s thoughtful initiative: “It sounds like a product out of an Onion article.”

Another one said, “If I wanted those apps I would download them on my own. Someone should also tell the company I can vote on my own now too.”

Here’s another spot-on comment, this time from Maria Seidman, founder of Yapp:

“To think that anyone can ‘guess’ what types of content I'd like just because I have two X chromosomes is just a bad business strategy. Products and content specifically targeting women only work when they are solving a unique problem surfaced by really listening.”
