The smartphone should feature a 4.5-inch screen, LTE connectivity

Following the purchase of Nokia’s Devices and Services division, Microsoft has confirmed plans to focus on growing the Windows Phone ecosystem with new, appealing devices, and one of them might be released at Verizon Wireless in the not-too-distant future.

We’ve already seen various reports on possible new Lumia devices to be launched before the end of this year, such as Nokia Superman and Tesla, but the new handset appears to be completely different from them.

According to a tweet coming from TK Tech News, the handset will be released with a compact body, featuring only a 4.5-inch touchscreen display capable of boasting a 720p resolution.

Even so, it appears that the yet unannounced device will be able to provide users with some appealing capabilities, including support for the wireless carrier’s 4G LTE network.

The main selling point of this mobile phone, however, should be its rear camera, which is rumored to feature a 20.1-megapixel sensor (most probably a PureView one).

Nokia has already released smartphones with such cameras on the back, and it would not come as a surprise if it includes the same sensor on this handset as well.

In fact, previous rumors on Microsoft’s plans for the remaining of the year suggested that a new PureView smartphone would be launched sooner rather than later under the name of Lumia 830, and chances are that the new leak refers to this phone.

A series of leaked images with the so-called Lumia 830 also have revealed a Lumia 1020-like PureView camera bump on its back, though a smaller one compared to what last year’s handset included.

Due to that, we assume that the upcoming device will sport a smaller PureView sensor (Lumia 1020 was launched with a 42MP one), which falls in line with the newly leaked info on a 20.1-megapixel camera on this Verizon-bound phone.

This is only our supposition at the moment, and chances are that the new smartphone, provided that it is indeed real, will turn out to be a completely different device in the end (though it would certainly run under Windows Phone, given Microsoft’s focus on its own mobile operating system).

With no official confirmation on the matter, we’ll have to take the info with a grain of salt for the time being, though we’ll certainly keep our fingers crossed for the leaked details to pan out.

Hopefully, some more details on this Nokia phone for Verizon will emerge sooner rather than later, so keep an eye on this space to learn the news.

Update: A video that allegedly shows the Start Screen of this smartphone has also emerged online, coming from the same leaker. The clip also confirms that the smartphone will indeed be called Lumia 830.
