As rumors have been saying for the past month, Warner Bros. could not miss out on the chance of bringing their upcoming superhero flick, “Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice,” to the biggest multi-genre event in the US, Comic-Con, held yearly in San Diego. So, a first-ever teaser from the film was introduced at the convention.

Slash Film reports that director Zack Snyder himself showed up on stage to intro the video, saying that, one day before, he was on set shooting scenes, but he “just” decided he wanted to come to Comic-Con, so he jumped on the plane and got there.

No one believed him that his appearance had really been that spontaneous, but that’s beside the point: he had come there to show footage from one of the most anticipated and talked about movies of the past years, and no little white lie could take anything from that.

In other words, the crowd went wild: the Vine below can offer you an idea of just how insane things got. Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, and Gal Gadot also walked on stage, waved to the fans, smiled, and walked off without saying a single word.

Now back to the teaser trailer.

The movie e-zine says that the short video opened with a shot of Batman (Ben Affleck) in a full armor suit, a replica of the one shown in Frank Miller’s comics The Dark Knight Returns. In this comic series, an old and tired Batman comes out retirement to fight crime in a Gotham that no longer cares for superheroes.

Batman pulls on a lever and the Bat Signal is shown in the sky, but as the camera moves to show it, it becomes clear that there’s something else in the middle of it. That’s Superman (Henry Cavill), lighting up the sky with his red eyes. The camera moves back to Batman, who has blue eyes, and then back to the logo, before it fades to black.

And that was it. However, Slash Film says, “I can’t express to you how awesome the teaser looked. It looked like the Frank Miller comic come to life through the lens of Zack Snyder.” That in itself should mean a lot for fans of the comic books, even if they still have their doubts about Affleck cutting it as The Bat.

“Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice,” the follow-up to “Man of Steel,” the Superman reboot also directed by Snyder, was announced at Comic-Con last year, and since then, fans have been talking about it non-stop. When the studio cast Affleck as Batman, many of them almost lost their mind in fury and outrage.

This installment will be the foundation of the Justice League franchise, Warners’ response to Marvel’s The Avengers. It also stars Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, and Jeremy Irons as Alfred. Amy Adams will reprise her role as Lois Lane.

The film won’t be out until May 2016. As for the date when Warners might release this teaser to the general public, there’s really no telling: it could be in a few weeks, or they could wait until next year.
