Today we have received some good “Simpsons” news in the form of a “Family Guy” crossover special, but there is also some potentially alarming news regarding the speculation that's been floating over the Internet for a few days that a major character from the series will be killed off.

Up to today, all the speculations pointed towards the lovable Krusty the Clown, but recent developments at Comic-Con 2014 are now revering that presumption and making it seem like Homer Simpson, the biggest character in “The Simpsons,” is going to bite the bullet.

A new clip has been revealed during the convention and it shows Homer in a very poor state of health. The lovable oaf can be seen lying in his bed, hooked up to a breathing aparatus, while Marge desperately tries to get him to breathe normally.

The producers revealed that the clip was taken from an episode entitled “Yellow Wedding,” a nod to the famous fantasy series “Game of Thrones” on HBO, which featured a “Red Wedding,” where several major characters in the show were ruthlessly killed off.

Fans have been left devastated by this new possibility that Homer, the patriarch of the Simpson clan for over 25 years, is going to be unceremoniously killed, but one of the producers, Al Jean, struggled to point out that even if the said character died, he would still appear on the show.

“It's a terrific character and it [happens in] our premiere this coming year. But just because a character is dying, that doesn't mean he (or she) won't pop up in a future episode,” Jean said. Up until today, he let on to believe that it was actually one of the secondary characters, Krusty the Clown, who was going to die, but now the new footage indicates it's not him after all.

It's believed that producers from “The Simpsons” show are trying to shake things up with this radical move, something that's been attempted before by their rival, “Family Guy,” which, last year, during its Christmas Special, killed off Brian, the family dog.

After fans expressed their displeasure with the move, the producers and writers found a way to bring him back. By the sound of things, “The Simpsons” are now trying to do pretty much the same thing, hinted on by the words of the producer who pointed out that the dead character would nonetheless find his way back in future episodes.

“The Simpsons” remains the longest-running animation show in American history and will be kicking off its 26 series in as many years this September. Someone must have been really keen to mark the occasion since they decided to kill one of the major characters just to make a lasting impression.

Who do you think is going to be killed off in the end, Homer or Krusty?
