Rumors pick up that fans will receive a huge surprise at San Diego convention next month

Come next month, when the biggest event of this type opens in San Diego, the 2014 edition of San Diego Comic-Con, fans should expect one of the biggest treats / surprises of the year, as Warner Bros. will be screening the first footage from the upcoming “Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice.”

The film, directed by Zack Snyder and starring Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, and Gal Gadot, is scheduled for release in May 2016 but we already know, from leaked on-set photos and reports, that it’s been in production for several weeks.

That is to say, by the time Comic-Con begins, on July 24 (it runs through to July 27), Warners will have even more footage to choose from, to put together a little snippet to show the fans. It doesn’t even have to be a trailer, which would require more completed scenes because, this early in the game, even a very short teaser would suffice.

Word of this comes from Latino Review’s El Mayimbe on Twitter and, for the time being, you can file it under “rumors.”

“HOT #SDCC2014 RUMOR! The DC/Warners panel will show a hot clip from BATMAN v SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE. FIND SPOT @ HALL H line NOW!” El Mayimbe writes, adding, “Hearing a hot rumor that the new BATMOBILE will be at comic con. #SDCC #SDCC2014”

So Warners won’t just showcase the first ever video from the film at the panel, but also set up a booth. That last part, with the Batmobile being on display at the event, is actually very likely.

Chances are for the first part to happen as well, buzz online says. If you recall, the announcement that the follow-up to Snyder’s “Man of Steel” would also include Batman (though we’ve established since that “Dawn of Justice” isn’t a sequel to Superman but the predecessor of the “Justice League” movie) was made at the 2013 edition of Comic-Con.

At the time, the announcement only said this (i.e. confirmed Batman’s involvement) and included a first look at the new logo – and even so, it sent the entire audience and fans online into a frenzy of excitement.

Some of that excitement died down when Snyder confirmed that Ben Affleck had been cast as Batman, so perhaps the director is thinking of offering the world a first glimpse at the new Caped Crusader also at Comic-Con, where it all began.

After all, we already know that he’s worn the suit and perhaps driven the Batmobile because Snyder photographed him for what has become the first ever photo of him in costume. Perhaps Snyder also shot a few seconds’ worth of video too then? Affleck is not on set right now, because he’s still training in Boston: he has a lot of bulking up to do if he wants to make a convincing opponent to Henry Cavill’s physically impressive Superman.
