Hours after Andrew Garfield wowed the Comic-Con 2011 crowds with his heartfelt Spider-Man speech at the Sony event for “The Amazing Spider-Man,” Rhys Ifans, who plays the villain in the upcoming film, was getting in trouble with the law, acting very diva-like.

The actor was on hand at the San Diego convention because he plays the villain in the reboot, so there’s plenty of interest in him as well.

However, before a screening of “Spider-Man,” Ifans caused quite a ruckus when he got into an altercation with a police officer, acted like a diva and got himself fined for it, The Wrap reports.

As per the e-zine, as he was about to enter a venue, Ifans was told that one member of his entourage did not have the proper credentials to get in, which is when he lost his cool.

He shoved the guard and started mouthing off to the guard who would not let his friend in. His breath smelled of alcohol, the report says.

“He was aggressive and belligerent. He was... berating everyone from the security staff to the United States of America,” Lt. Andra Brown tells the movie-oriented publication.

“He was cited and released, which is a non-custodial misdemeanor arrest. But, according to him, the US sucks and he doesn’t want to come back,” Brown adds.

The San Diego City Attorney will now determine whether they want to file charges against Ifans.

Reports online suggest that it was the security guard who started it, as Ifans and some members of his entourage had just stepped outside for a smoke and weren’t allowed back in, which is when the fight broke.

Whether that was the case or not, Ifans doesn’t say. Sony has already apologized on his behalf.

“Rhys Ifans was detained by Comic-Con security after a brief incident backstage prior to and immediately following the ‘Amazing Spider-Man’ panel. Police were notified and a citation was issued to Mr. Ifans, who deeply regrets this incident,” says the network in a statement.
