Datacolor has announced SpyderGallery for iPad, a software companion for users of the Spyder3 display calibration solution.

A free download from Apple’s App Store, SpyderGallery is regarded as the first app to allow for custom color profiling of iOS devices, as well as the first solution to allow a viewer to apply custom color corrections to images.

Users can see color-corrected photos in the standard photo library albums and measure and profile color on the iPad, as well as apply color correction to images displayed through the SpyderGallery thereafter.

According to the developers, viewing images through the color-managed viewer will allow for more accurate colors, while users get a closer match to color-managed displays and other desktop monitors.

“For photographers who use the iPad as a portable portfolio tool, SpyderGallery is a critical component to their photo gear to ensure work is being displayed correctly,” said Knut Fenner, vice president, Imaging Color Solutions, Datacolor.

“Those wanting to display images while on-the-go, whether for professional or personal use, will no longer need to compromise color accuracy for the convenience of the iPad,” Fenner added.

“I’ve been using Datacolor products for over 10 years, and the same calibration perfection I get with my monitor I now get on my iPad; that’s amazing,” said Sarah Silver, NY-based fashion and beauty photographer.

Key benefits of using SpyderGallery, as highlighted by Datacolor, include the ability to color correct your iPad and iPad 2; the ability to view all images loaded on iPad in one easy-to-use gallery viewer; it eliminates the need for photo importing; it brings a personal photo watermarking feature; and, finally, it boasts pixel-level zooming capabilities.

The freely downloadable SpyderGallery iOS app is available exclusively to iPad owners. The software requires that users have at least iOS 4.0 installed on their tablets.
