BioWare has announced that it plans to put together a Collector's Edition of Mass Effect 2, the space-based role playing game set to arrive in early 2010. The developer is saying that only a small number of the packages will be produced and that those who are interested in them should pre-order as soon as possible.

The Collector's Edition of Mass Effect 2 should contain the full version of the videogame, an art book, hardcover, showing off the art of the title and how it evolved over time, the first issue of the comic book illustrating the universe and a bonus DVD displaying how Mass Effect 2 was put together. All of this is set to be offered in a tin case with a space age feel. Those who acquire the Collector's Edition should also get in-game weapons and armor that other players will not have access to.

Ray Muzika, who is one of the co-founders of BioWare and leading the role playing division of Electronic Arts, stated that “We’re really excited to roll out this Collectors’ Edition featuring so many unique items, including special Collectors’ Edition armor and weapons and content that will surprise Mass Effect fans. The limited edition comic book and bonus DVD will really enhance and expand the overall Mass Effect 2 experience.”

Mass Effect 2 is again set to star Commander Shepard, now a full-fledged galactic hero after his actions in the first title, as he gets a new mission: to recruit a crack team and then investigate the mysterious disappearance of clusters of humans all over the galaxy. BioWare is promising better combat than in the first game, more complex dialog trees and more important choices. The game should be released on the Xbox 360 and the PC on January 26 in North America and three days later in Europe.
