Let's put aside the entire Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow breakup scandal and take a look at what Coldplay has been working on lately, since they have a new album coming out called “Ghost Stories.”

The song “Magic” had already made its way online in audio form only, but now the band has made a video for it and it looks like they drew on for inspiration on the roaring ‘20s, a time when burlesque shows and circus performances were all the rage.

In the video, Martin falls in love with a beautiful Asian performer, played by the Chinese actress Ziyi Zhang. Unconventionally, Ziyi plays the magician, while Martin plays the assistant. The two struggle to make their love story behind the husband of the magician, whom Chris ends up sending into the night sky with his powers.

There is a lot of retro cool in this video directed by Jonas Åkerlund, a man that has previously worked with Madonna, Lady Gaga and U2.

The video marks the second clip from the new album, the first being made for the promo track “Midnight,” which shares the same laid back sound, though admittedly has a more electronic sound.

For those of you interested more in the gossip factor, it is rumored that this song is actually about Martin's broken relationship with actress Gwyneth Paltrow which he still thinks was “magic” despite being broken “in two.”

The lyrics say “And if you were to ask me, after all that we've been through, still believe in magic, I guess I do,” which is kind of sad if you think about it, because it means that Chris thought he could salvage his marriage up until the very end.
