Cognitive Prime were crowned the first ever Smite World Champions, after winning a nail-biting best-of-five match against Titan.

Titan, the European eSports team who was the series' definitive underdog, almost snagged the trophy from Cognitive Prime, who managed to recoup and finally secured the win.

Titan barely managed to qualify, after defeating favorite Fnatic, and then proceed all the way to the finals, against all odds.

The matches took place yesterday, and the first two saw the young European team get completely smashed.

Just when things started to look like a lopsided anticlimactic 3-0 victory for Cognitive Prime was unavoidable, Titan came back and through an intriguing choice of gods managed to snatch two matches, tying the score.

Cognitive Prime secured a 3-2 victory

An analysis of lost matches led team Cognitive Prime to make the right god ban selection against Titan, and that combined with getting some pretty good choices of their own resulted in the team grabbing the coveted Smite World Champion trophy and the prize purse of no less than $1.3 / €1.1 million, out of the total of $2.6 / €2.2 million.

This concluded Smite's first competitive season, with the second one scheduled to debut sometime later this year. The tournament cemented Smite's presence as an eSport, right next to the heavy-hitters, Valve's Dota 2 and Riot Games' League of Legends.

With the Xbox One version of the multiplayer online battle arena game scheduled to drop this year, developer Hi-Rez Studios is set to make a lasting impact on the gaming world.
