Score reset was the only thing to do

If you are a fan of racing games or, to be more specific, of the recently released Codemasters title Race Driver: GRID, you probably know of the existence of an in-game glitch which allows players to gain easy experience for doing nothing - something called the brown screen. Well, you are probably aware of the fact that the developers did not really enjoy to see people cheating while playing, so they have decided to reset the servers, patch the game and make sure nothing like that will ever happen again.

As you can imagine, some people do play only for rankings, points and stuff like that (forgetting about the most important thing video games should bring: fun!) and these people got really pissed off to find out that their hard earned experience was brought back to zero. However, Rich Tysoe from Codemasters decided to address the situation and posted a message on the official forums, basically stating that they're sorry, but it was the only thing left for them to do.

"Given the number of reports we've had of people abusing the ranking system to get unfair ranks, it was only fair that we did a reset. It's never an easy decision to make, and we'd rather it hadn't come to this, but changes in the patch should make gaining those ranking points back fairer," Tysoe wrote on the forums. "We'd like to think that people play online for the fun of it, not so much the amassing of points, but if you find yourself in this sort of situation, it's the fairest solution."

So, we could consider this to be a lesson for everybody: cheating is bad, no matter how you put it - it's not only the cheater who gets caught and punished, but the innocent, hard working gamer, too. So you should know, the next time you catch somebody cheating, report the dude or run away as things could get worse for you, too.
