Codemasters have offered some of the first details about their new DiRT 3, saying that the new rally racing experience will maintain the wider appeal which the series acquired with its second installment while also bringing most of the action close to the core of the rally experience.

Talking to Eurogamer about DiRT 3 the developers have said that about 60 percent of the game will be classic rally action, with six disciplines included and more than one hundred racing routes.

A number of traditional European locations, which are the most engaging for the sport, will be simulated and will include twists like snow modeling, complex rain effects and even night time racing.

Kenya and Aspen have also been confirmed as being part of the track list for DiRT 3.

Codemasters says that there are 15 car classes included in the game, nine of them devoted to pure rally cars, with about 50 cars included overall.

Codemasters has not talked about whether DiRT 3 will be including a damage model for the cars, in an effort to make the experience closer to real life.

The handling model for the cars has also been tweaked when compared to the previous title in the series.

Here is a list of the cars which have been confirmed by the developers themselves as being in DiRT 3: the Peugeot 405 T16, the Mk2 Escort, the Mini Cooper S Works Rally, the Renaults Alpine and R5 Turbo, the Audi Quattro and the Lancia Delta HF Integrale.

DiRT 3 is set to include for the first time gymkhana as a type of racing event, creating complex racing experiences where good control of the car itself is as important as making sure that the track is well represented in the back of the gamers mind.

Colin McRae's DiRT 2 was mostly well reviewed when it launched in late 2009.
