Coca Cola tries to make the 2012 Olympics more sustainable, by committing to recycle all the plastic bottles which will be left behind after this major event. According to their plan, the enormous amount of waste will contribute to the birth of 80 million new Coke bottles, instead of ending up in landfills.

Six weeks after the expected ceremony, the company will be able to reuse all colorless Coke and non-Coke PETS, while handling one fifth of the total amount of trash which is expected to be produced.

Coca Cola is aware of the fact that this process requires a lot of work and therefore has decided to establish a partnership with Sita UK, the enterprise which is the waste management partner of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG).

This collaboration will allow the worldwide known beverage company to send the unwanted plastic pets to the Continuum Recycling, an earth-friendly facility located in North Lincolnshire.

Due to this initiative, the recycling center will have to deal with a doubled amount of waste 35,000 tons in 2010 to approximately 75,000 tons. Coca Cola's initiative comes to offer extra support to LOCOG's decision of making sure that the entire amount of waste won't fill the local landfills, while the organization hopes that up to 70% of the abandoned material will end up being reused.

At this point in time, eco-groups are already struggling to convince London's inhabitants that the recycling strategies are meant to make the 2012 Olympics more sustainable.

And their ideas have been put into practice, since representatives from Coca Cola have already installed 260 recycling containers all across the Olympic Park.

Most of the individuals seem to appreciate the company's efforts. A recent poll conducted by the beverage company reflected that up to 97% of the people questioned think they are unable to manifest their eco-conscious attitude, due to the lack of recycling points, a problem visible all across London.

The company says that it will continue to highlight the importance of recycling operations, even after the 2012 Olympics, since such actions are in favor of the environment and the inhabitants' wellbeing.

Coca Cola has expanded its eco-friendly strategies, by making sure that the delivery of their products won't put the air quality in danger. Officials declared that their products would be brought to the Olympic Park from a green storage facility located in Dagenham, London.

Furthermore, the eco-conscious beverage enterprise promised its delivery won't affect the environment, since it plans to use 14 lorries powered by biogas, which will come equipped with HFC-free coolers.

A fresh, earth-friendly start, which will please London's inhabitants and authorities, who have to come up with green ways of dealing with the 11,000 tons of trash which are produced every single day.
